The 3 rd Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town will be a powerful meeting as 4,000 leaders from 200 countries come together. These leaders, carefully chose from tens of thousands of applicants, represent the demographic, theological, and cultural realities of the global church.  Young and old, men and women, mission leaders, pastors and theologians, with Kingdom-minded leaders  from the worlds of business, government, education, medicine, and the media.
Doug Birdsall

The goal of the Lausanne Congress is to draw the best and brightest ... the sharpest minds, the most creative and courageous leaders the church has to offer. The need: to strategize global ministry moving forward in this new Millennium.
I know what you are thinking . . . "Then what the heck are you doing there?!?" I must have been voted in as Balaam's faithful steed. There aught to be one talking donkey in every crowd. Seriously, though, Global Teen Challenge is at the cutting edge in evangelism world wide. I am honored to be here representing GTC and over 25,000 beds in 1,100 Centers in 83 Nations.

~~~~~ The First International Congress on World Evangelization
Billy Graham
The first conference (click for video) was held in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1974 (hence the name). Called by a committee headed by Rev. Billy Graham, it was a clarion to Evangelicals who felt a call to integrity to the call of Jesus to evangelize the world. It was a response to a gathering of the World Council of Churches meeting in Edinburgh in 1910 (click for video) and drew more than 2,300 evangelical leaders, from 150 countries. The theme was, "Let The Earth Hear His Voice." Leaders participated in plenary sessions and Bible studies as well as discussions and debates over theology, strategy and methods of evangelism. The meeting was defined by the preparation of the historic The Lausanne Covenant. This declaration helped to define the necessity, responsibilities, and goals of propagating the Gospel.
~~~~~ Lausanne II: International Congress on World Evangelization
~~~~~ Manila, Philippines (July 1989) Proclaim Christ until He Comes:
Calling the Whole Church to Take the Whole Gospel to the Whole World Lausanne II in Manila played a significant role in completing the task of world evangelization. They not only defined a new mission field and strategy for unreached people groups, but promoted a new level of cooperation in that cause and networking between evangelical leaders in that task.
Historically, the Church has gathered to discuss external pressures and internal problems. The Lausanne Congress is no different as we address the effects of globalization on the Church. Included in this there are several key issues such as the challenge of other
religious faiths, the impact of secularism and a call for authenticity in the Church. In America we look for models of commitment that cost nothing and promise everything, a gospel of comfort. Hearing the testimonies of those who are dying for their faith was revealing, compelling, and challenging. We guarantee new life, new promise and great blessing. If you come to Jesus In Afghanistan and North Korea they offer new life, persecution and even death. When I realize that this is not the same gospel we preach, I must ask the question, . . . . "Was dying part of the original gospel?"
Amy Donovan, Tech Squad Manager for the Congress commented, "Over 100,000 tried to access the opening Ceremonies and this presented an unprecedented level of Internet usage for South Africa, even more than the bandwidth the World Cup demanded!" We are up and running again.
CAPE TOWN TEEN CHALLENGE
I have had wonderful time at TC Western Cape...staff training, chapel, ministry, street, and church services. I even shared in a High School Commencement exercise at Western Shore, where Teen Challenge does the drug prevention for the school.
snakes I saw the snake of addiction on the street! I saw this snake in my room. He joined me in the bathroom at 5 AM Thursday. I get up often at night, I'm getting old. I had the lights off and no glasses when I met this
6 foot long (2 metre) Boomslange, one of Africa's most venomous hemotoxin snakes. I felt it slip right by my foot as I was using the toilet in the early morning.
I thank God for his continued protection!
RIGHT- Men laugh, smoke "mandrax" openly and hold up their bottles of Black Label Beer. They say the party will never end. To them it is the only way to survive in the Cape Flats with the per capita 2nd most murders of any City in the World!.
